Detroit man charged after stealing Highland Park ambulance while paramedics treated patient on Second Avenue

A Detroit man faces four charges after prosecutors say he stole a Highland Park ambulance while paramedics were inside an apartment building treating a patient.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged 48-year-old Eddie D. Carroll over the Sept. 2 theft. Prosecutors said Highland Park police were called around 12:20 p.m. to an apartment complex in the 14200 block of Second Avenue for a report of an auto theft in progress.
When officers arrived, EMS paramedics told them the ambulance had been taken while they were tending to a patient inside the building, prosecutors said. Police alleged Carroll took the ambulance and drove away.
Highland Park police, with assistance from Michigan State Police, located Carroll shortly afterward near Grand River Avenue and Temple Street in Detroit. Police arrested him there.
Carroll is charged with unlawfully driving away a motor vehicle, receiving and concealing a motor vehicle, resisting and obstructing a police officer, and fourth-degree fleeing and eluding.
He was expected to be arraigned this afternoon in Highland Park's 30th District Court.
