Detroit man charged after Highland Park ambulance stolen during medical call on Second Avenue

A 48-year-old Detroit man was charged after he stole a Highland Park ambulance while paramedics were inside an apartment building treating a patient, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy announced.
Highland Park police said officers were called around 12:20 p.m. on Sept. 2 to an apartment complex in the 14200 block of Second Avenue for a report of an auto theft in progress. EMS paramedics told officers the ambulance had been taken while they were caring for a patient inside the building, prosecutors said.
Police alleged Eddie D. Carroll took the ambulance and drove away. Highland Park officers, assisted by Michigan State Police, found Carroll shortly afterward near Grand River Avenue and Temple Street in Detroit and arrested him, prosecutors said.
Carroll is charged with unlawfully driving away a motor vehicle, receiving and concealing a motor vehicle, resisting and obstructing a police officer, and fourth-degree fleeing and eluding.
He was expected to be arraigned Thursday afternoon in Highland Park’s 30th District Court.
