Highland Park ambulance stolen during medical call; Detroit man charged

A Detroit man is charged with stealing an ambulance while paramedics were inside a Highland Park apartment building treating a patient.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged 48-year-old Eddie D. Carroll over the Sept. 2 theft.
Highland Park police were called around 12:20 p.m. to an apartment complex in the 14200 block of Second Avenue for a report of an auto theft in progress. When officers arrived, they spoke with EMS paramedics. Prosecutors said the paramedics told officers their ambulance had been stolen while they were tending to a patient inside the building.
Police allege Carroll took the ambulance and drove away.
Highland Park police, with assistance from Michigan State Police, located Carroll soon afterward near Grand River Avenue and Temple Street in Detroit, where he was arrested.
Carroll is charged with unlawfully driving away a motor vehicle, receiving and concealing a motor vehicle, resisting and obstructing a police officer, and fourth-degree fleeing and eluding.
He is expected to be arraigned this afternoon in Highland Park’s 30th District Court.
